Little Lake Medical Building

Barrie, Ontario, Canada

This 5-storey commercial building with an enclosed mechanical penthouse was designed with the intent of being a medical centre. The main structure consists of a structural steel column and beam system supporting precast hollowcore planks with load bearing block walls for the elevator and stair cores. The main design challenge for this building was the deep basement and that it was set at the bottom of a hill, which added a significant amount of soil loading on the back side of the ground floor. The exterior walls, parapets, and mechanical penthouse are constructed using light steel framing (LSF) members. The building is supported on conventional plain and reinforced concrete footings.
