SWS Engineering has been providing quality structural engineering services throughout Canada since Samson Wong, P.Eng. founded the firm in 1992. We strive to continue providing quality service and to exceed our client’s expectations.
Our utmost objective is to deliver safe, sound, and cost-effective designs. We strive to sustain a high level of performance in all areas of work. Our staff is trained in ISO 9001 quality management criteria and value engineering.
We work in all areas of structural engineering, including new build commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial projects and addition/alteration projects. In addition, we have much experience in most structural systems, including engineered wood and timber, plain and reinforced masonry, structural steel, and reinforced concrete (cast in-place, precast, and prestressed).
We are a small firm consisting of seven employees that prides ourself on our ability to manage high-profile and small projects while maintaining strong working relationships with our clients. We consistently provide superior quality and service to our clients.

Samson Wong, P.Eng., M.E.Sc., B.E.Sc.
Samson Wong earned his Master’s Degree in Engineering Science from the University of Western Ontario in 1983. During his career, Samson has gained a wide breadth of experience and has been licensed and practiced engineering throughout Canada as well as other countries, including Singapore and Australia. He has extensive engineering experience, both local and abroad, including low-rise and high-rise residential projects, various types of commercial projects, institutional projects, and large and small scale industrial projects. He also has significant experience in ISO 9001 quality assurance and value engineering. Prior to setting up his own practice, he worked as the Manager of the Ontario Branch for a Canadian structural engineering consulting firm, as an Intermediate Structural Engineer with Metro Toronto Housing Authority and as Head of Design Research and Head of Design Standardisation for Singapore Housing and Development Board.
Blair Flood, P.Eng., B.E.Sc.
Blair Flood earned his Bachelor Degree in Engineering Science in 2001, and is currently completing a Masters in Engineering at the University of Western Ontario. He currently holds professional licences to practice in Ontario and Newfoundland. Since joining SWS Engineering, Blair has gained extensive experience in many facets of structural engineering as well as project management, with an emphasis on delivering value-based engineering to the client. He has worked on a vast array of both large and small-scale projects with varying structural systems, and has extensive experience dealing with issues that arise on site during construction. Prior to working with SWS Engineering, Blair worked with Trow Consulting Engineers in the Geotechnical and Building Sciences Divisions, analysing site conditions and quality testing of soil, asphalt and concrete.
Andre Hernandez, M.Eng., B.E.Sc.
Andre Hernandez obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Unifor University (Brazil). While doing his undergraduate studies, he spent more than a year in Sydney-Australia in a government scholarship exchange program studying structural engineering courses. Andre did his M. Eng. degree in 2021 at Western University with an emphasis also in structural engineering. Prior to joining SWS Engineering, Andre worked for a steel fabricator for 6 years doing detailing, modelling and designing of steel structures using different kinds of softwares. Since joining our team, he has gained valuable design and field experience and has worked on many projects, including commercial buildings, mid-rises and cinemas.
Hung Pham, E.I.T., M.Eng., B.E.Sc.
Hung Pham earned his Bachelor’s in engineering science and completed his Master’s of engineering in 2017 at the University of Western Ontario. Since joining SWS Engineering, Hung has gained valuable design and site experience in custom homes, residential complexes, and industrial buildings. Prior to joining SWS Engineering, Hung was a Contractor specialising on interior finishes.
Yan Leng
Yan Leng began his career as a steel detailer in China. He has extensive knowledge in steel connections and construction. He joined SWS Engineering in 2003 where he has gained design experience in custom homes, commercial complexes, and restoration/retrofit projects.
Lee Chin
Lee Chin started her career as a TV journalist prior to working with SWS Engineering. She began working at SWS Engineering when the business started and has been providing office administrative services ever since.
